Soul Action: projects

kwacare
kwadabeka, durban, south africa

KwaCare is an established non profit organisation that was set up by HIS Church in Durban to meet the growing needs of the people of KwaDabeka... a township located in the local area of the church.

Soul Action have been supporting KwaCare through both grants and the sending of volunteers on teams. You can hear a bit about both the teams and the work of KwaCare in the video below...

Project name:

KwaCare

Project location:

KwaDabeka, Pinetown

Who runs the project?

KwaCare is a ministry of His Church, Pinetown

What is the need?

The people of KwaDabeka are mostly Zulu speaking and live in very poor conditions. Many people live in shacks with no running water or electricity. Aids and TB are just another part of everyday life, leaving many children and adults bedridden and unemployed without a sense of hope for the future. This contributes to domestic violence, child neglect and breakdown of the family structure.

Approximately 38% of households in KwaDabeka have no income whatsoever. It is not uncommon to find a person anywhere between the age of 15 and 65 with up to 5 dependants. With the prevalence of HIV, Aids and TB, it is becoming increasingly difficult for families to educate, clothe, nourish and sustain themselves.

What does the project do?

KwaCare has recently expanded to include a Church plant, community outreach branch and an Orphans village project. The community outreach branch focuses on several very exciting projects. We administer and run feeding schemes which include Adopt a Baby, Adopt a Family and two weekly soup kitchens. Adopt a Creche concentrates on uplifting and/or building crèches in the township. Our popular Kids Club is held on a Friday and provides discipleship to the youth. Other projects include a Caring Cupboard which provides food parcels for desperate people, widows and single mums. Weekly College Pracs involve visits to Old Age Homes, Hospices, Orphanages, Crèches and a Community Upliftment project.

What difference is being made?

KwaCare currently supports 90 families monthly on the Adopt a Family program. We provide formula for 70 babies every month. Our Soup Kitchens feed approximately 100-200 people a week. To date, six crèches have been uplifted, with many more in the pipeline. Many are coming to Christ through the Church. In short we are seeing the realisation of our goal to impact the people, physically, spiritually and emotionally.
