Slum Survivor is a simulation experience designed to help connect people with the lives of the world's poorest. By spending some time the way a billion spend a lifetime, eating a limited diet and facing tough challenges and choices you'll seek to both raise funds for - and awareness of - the poverty and people that live in the world's slums.

All the money raised through sponsorship goes to the work Soul Action support in poor communities around the world.

What is Slum Survivor?
Slum Survivor is a simulation event that aims to both raise awareness of poverty and raise money for change. Typically, over a weekend a youth group will build shelters, eat a limited diet, face challenges and spend time reading the Bible, connecting both their minds and bodies with the reality of poverty.

Who is Slum Survivor for?
Slum Survivor isn't for everybody. It can be quite a grueling challenge with a limited diet, so it's usual for participants to get tired and dirty. Those who take part have to abide by certain rules that limit their choices, possessions and freedom. So, if you're thinking of running an event make sure everyone involved knows what they've signed up for. Saying all that over 240 churches have run a Slum Survivor, so it is fun too!

Around the world 100 million children live on the streets. In South Africa alone it is thought there are 250,000 young people supporting themselves without anywhere to call home.

The new Slum Survivor guide focuses on the lives of several street children from South Africa. The challenges you face over the course of a few hours will highlight the insecurity and poverty they face on a daily basis.

Not only will you be raising awareness of these issues, but you'll also be helping to raise money for projects working in poor communities around the world! Download the guides and info below for all the info you need to get started!

The issues...
Street children face loads of issues. They may live on the streets because their parents have died, or their families just can't afford to support them. Beyond that there is a daily struggle to earn money to pay for food. Furthermore, living on the streets exposes these young people to crime, violence and prejudice. The new Slum Survivor guide will focuses on these issues and help to raise money and awareness for change.

No Slumber is a way of raising money. But No Slumber is more than that; it's a challenge.

Have you got what it takes to spend a day and a night experiencing how life is for millions of children orphaned by AIDS? Have you got the head, hands and heart to look after yourself and others in a world where life and death choices rest with you?

This challenge is not easy. It will push and pull you in ways that will be uncomfortable and awkward, but it will leave your eyes wide open to the way life is for millions of children around the world. It will wake you up.

The issues
There are millions of children around the world who live in homes without adults. Most often this is because their parents have died from AIDS-related illness. We call these child-headed households and nobody knows precisely how many there are of them. Here in the UK and Ireland there are children facing terrible loss. But in many countries their peers must face the same grief without the support of the state, in situations of crushing poverty. These young people must make choices that carry incredible weight - life and death choices that must be made every day.

It's all about character
As part of No Slumber you'll live out the experiences and choices of a family of children. But it's more than a nice story... those taking part will play various characters and literally live out the consequences of their decisions seeing what life is like for millions of children around the world whose parents have died No Slumber aims to shock those that take part; to leave them inspired and impacted by the strength of those who live this way every day; and to raise money to support the very people who in turn are caring for and guiding them.
